The Taliban has began attacking villages and checkpoints on the outskirts of Ghazni on Thursday
This comes only a short time after the Taliban occupied Ghazni for four days
Services are still being restored in the city and aid is slow to come
This comes after President Ghani’s offer of a 3 month ceasefire with the Taliban–which does not appear to be likely
Why It Matters: The continued assaults on Ghazni by the Taliban expose the weakness of the Afghan government and security situation. The inability to provide security, shows that the Taliban is stronger than most think and it gives them little incentive to enter into a ceasefire agreement.
