- The fight for Derna has escalated and the airstrikes and shelling has driven Derna Protection Forces (DPF) personnel into residential areas to shield themselves
- Over 125,000 people in the city have no water or electricity and the UN is warning that food and medicine could run out
- No aid has reached the city since March
- The Libyan National Army (LNA) is making progress in the outskirts of Derna, but until recently its success was limited
Why It Matters: Derna is the last city in Libya’s east that is not controlled by the LNA. With the dire situation in Derna, LNA appears to be making strides in gaining control. However, its fight against many different groups, including terrorists and rebels, will continue to cause problems well into the future.
